5 Reasons You Need to Love Your Hydrochloric Acid (Stomach Acid)

This weeks video blog – the subject no one ever asks about and yet is SOOO important!

Stomach Acid.  Hydrochloric Acid.  Hypochlorhydria if you don’t have enough.

If you’ve been around long at all, you’ve likely heard me say that GI health is FUNDAMENTAL to overall health.  Say it again to your self.

So, today, I have 5 reasons we NEED HCl.  Hydrochloric acid.
#1.  It lowers the pH and makes our stomach more acidic.  That keeps “bugs” like H Pylori, E Coli, and Yeast from colonizing – and this is a good thing.  Many bacteria are “opportunistic” and if given 1/2 a chance, they’ll monopolize, crowding out healthy microflora.

#2.  Stomach acid helps us digest our food.  We need the acid to turn our king salmon into essential fatty acids, amino acids, and monosaccharides.  And from that delicious healthy meal, we need to be able to digest & absorb nutrients – B vitamins and minerals like zinc, copper, magnesium, calcium and iron.  Without them, we are at risk for a host of health conditions.

#3.  Stomach acid “signals” the pancreas to release his digestive juices, further aiding in the digestive process.

#4.  When we eat protein, our body breaks it down into amino acids and then we make neurotransmitters from those amino acids.  I know you think neurotransmitters are made in the brain.  I’m here to set the record straight – the brain USES them but they are MADE in the GI tract.

#5.  If we don’t break down our pork chop or salmon into amino acids, the food (not the amino acids) can cross into the blood stream and then the immune system does what it thinks is best – attack!!!    As it should but what we’ve done is unintentionally engaged the immune system.  Plenty of research links low HCL and auto immune diseases in fact.

SIGNS & SYMPTOMS you might need digestive support:
1.  Food allergies or sensitivities
2.  Hard compact little pieces of stool…and probably not easy to pass
3.  Slow motility
4.  Vertical ridges running from the nail bed out
5.  Heart burn, gas, bloating
6.  An auto immune disease
