This festive, fresh fruit salad is a longevity snack or meal!
Fruits are a foundational food. They are absolutely critical for your health! If you’re not eating fruit because of something you’ve heard or read, you have the wrong information, and you’re doing yourself a great disservice by avoiding fruit.
Fruits contain the largest amount of antioxidants out of every food group on the planet. (This is a good thing!) And antioxidants are what stop us from aging, which is exactly what everybody wants. We want to slow down old man time right?
You’ve heard about antioxidants right? Antioxidants is a term for fighting free radicals and free radicals are toxins that age us. We oxidize without antioxidants. It’s like a cast iron pan that rusts! Oxidizing means we age.
What happens if we didn’t have the antioxidants in our life or in our diet? We would not only age, we would fall apart. Certain parts of our body would not work as good as they need to. Arthritis would develop as our bodies acidify without fruits (and veggies and leafy greens). Our liver filters would plug up without fruit, and this makes the heart work harder as it pulls blood from the liver and circulates it throughout the body.
Every day, you hear something about it, a liver cleanse or a liver supplement. A piece of fruit cleanses the liver better than any liver supplement!
But yet, we’re told not to have fruit!
So when someone’s telling you that and they’re saying, “No, no, no. Fruit has too much sugar,” they are misinformed and confusing chocolate cake with fruit. BOTH have sugar but the sugar is not the same. Remember, our bodies run on carbohydrate.
Last lesson for today…. don’t forget about the Dirty Dozen when buying your produce! The Dirty Dozen is a list of fruits and vegetables that have been found to contain the most pesticide residue, so you may prefer to choose the organic options (meaning foods on this list are highly sprayed!)
The Dirty Dozen (important to buy these foods organic)
1. Apples
2. Strawberries
3. Grapes
4. Celery
5. Peaches
6. Spinach
7. Sweet Bell Peppers
8. Nectarines
9. Cucumbers
10. Cherry Tomatoes
11. Snap Peas
12. Potatoes
For this recipe you may choose any fruits you like! You can make a big bowl, or serve it just for 4 of you in decorative parfait glasses!
This recipe makes about 2-4 servings depending on how hungry you are!
Ingredients:
Fresh Fruit Salad
1 pint organic strawberries
4 kiwis, peeled and cubed
3 pineapple spears
3 fresh mango (or frozen and thawed)
1/2 pint organic blueberries (wild blueberries are richer in anti-oxidants but they will “bleed” onto your other foods)
Honey Lime Dressing
Juice of 1-2 limes
3 Tbsp raw honey
Directions:
1. Prepare all fruit and place in serving bowl or parfait glasses.
2. In a small bowl, mix honey and lime juice.
